I look forward to seeing first through fifth graders to tell them all about Tiny Broadwick,
the FIRST WOMAN to parachute from an airplane and the PERSON who invented the rip cord
in mid-air to save her life!
In addition to reading this exciting story to the class, I will share a PowerPoint presentation
about the push and pull of gravity and drag force, about air pressure and lift, through modern
and historical videos and pictures as we talk about hot air balloons and parachutes.

I love visiting elementary schools for an hour-long presentation on EMMA AND THE CIVIL WARRIOR.
This novel is particularly applicable to the study of North Carolina and/or United States history
during the Civil War period in fourth and fifth grade classrooms.
